Drive shaft issues how fun!
So front drive shaft came off other day while in downtown bad part of Memphis at about 15-20 mph horrible noise but no other damage to car except for the yoke pieces the u joint connects were eaten away from rubbing leaving thin surfaces for the u joint cup to be pressed into there fore leaving me with an unsafe shaft to use. So for the time she is locked in to get me the 3 mi back and forth from the ER for work. But plan to pull a shaft from one of the numerous junk yard pieces at my disposal. Question though this was a newer joint maybe six months old on a 4.0 98" with 2" lift should it eat u joints like that? And yes it was autozone joint. I ask now cause rear u joints will need reacement soon after I refit front shaft and replace those joints from junkyard. Pt schram recommends some US made joints does anyone else have reccomendations for a HD u joint?
May have been bad part of down town but one of the "ghetto" tire shops on the corner happened to have a few guys whose grandma I carried to dialysis on ambulance for 2 years they saw me and we took off busted yoke and shaft in record time with 2 14mm wrenches, it's great to have friends/ acquaintances even in the worst parts of town. Especially with the kids and mr smith and wesson on board. Thanks for any help or recommendations in the matter.

Tom, if you happen to read this I just wanted to extend a huge thanks for the excellent write up! Glad Walko327 brought it up, a bit of coincidence.....
I was able to rebuild a DII's front shaft yesterday quickly, confidently with the details you provided in your tech write up. I was able to relay the u-joint/centering ball part numbers (PDQ) over the phone, they picked them up same day and left them on passenger seat for me. All I brought to the truck where four combo 14mm and 9/16's wrenches (all wrenches are not created equal; Proto, Snap-On and Crapsman), pall peen and center punch. Captured bolts on tc flange made my work easy. It's the small details that making working on a LR a wrench turners dream.....it's the reason I enjoy them. DII power steering pump removal....not so much....
On a personal level it was the perfect refresher, a valuable one to the tune of a buck fifty which the owner would not take back.
The DII's owner was overwhelmed with the work I did. I'm obligated to share with you Tom since you made my work just that much easier in a pinch.
Thanks again Tom, if only P76Rangie knew the details eh........like plasticity.
