Default Issues while greasing the drive shaft

Hello all,

I am base lining a new-to-me Disco. Most of the items on my list I have never attempted before. I was greasing the drive shaft joints and have some questions about the results.

First off, is this normal/good for the grease to come seeping out of the rubber boot like this?

Second, when I started greasing the zerk on the front joint, grease immediately shot out of the tip of the zerk fitting. It seemed like the pressure was pretty high inside.

Last, when I started greasing the rear joint zerk fitting, black grease started shooting out of the joint ends:

Is any of this normal, abnormal, signs of impending doom?

Grease should come out of the joints at all 4 sides. Pump until clean grease comes out. The grease fitting probably wasn't fitted to the front zerk all the way.

On pic 2 neither the grease gun tip is wore out or the zerk fitting is bad, always wipe the fittings before greasing so you do not pump dirt into it

You actually want grease to start seeping out of the rubber seals, that's how you know it's full.
As previously mentioned, if it seems like it's not going into the zerk, it's either clogged with crud or your grease gun did not snap in properly.

Thanks guys. I eventually got grease into each of the 4 U-joints, but didn't get the grease to come out of each of the ends on the cross. It would only come out of 1-2 ends on each joint. I'm looking at replacing them soon.

Grease is just taking path of least resistance, look at the caps for discoloration, mine were replaced and never greased caps were blued from heat killing the dry bearings

You don't want them merely full.
You want to see new grease coming from around all 4 seals. One of the important reasons to grease u-joints, if not the most important reason, is to purge all the moisture and impurities out of the u-joint. You can only achieve that when new grease comes out from around all 4 seals.

And after grease of shafts, what about swivels (CVs)? And some lube for the hood cable? You are already dirty....
