Default ecm numbers

I'm need to replace my ecm and was wondering if anybody could confirm if the numbers on the new will work. They are from left to right on the box, 1st one is ERR7377 80754A Date Code is 0197. and the old ecm numbers are ERR6355 80630A date code 3295. both ecm are out of a 97'.

The ERR7377 is for AEL and the ERR6355 is for a 97 without AEL. So basically pretty easy answer, you have either or controlling your motor. If you have an early 97 its doesn't have it, later 97 does. Round charcoal can or square on it side.

You can use the AEL ECU on a non-AEL system, it might or might not set the CEL. If you use the non-AEL ECU on an AEL truck it won't run well.

Thanks for the quick reply ihscouts, I think the one that was in it was the wrong one. The charcoal canister sits right in front of the ecm correct?

Yep and it's either laying on it's side and square for AEL or upright and round for non-AEL.

Gotcha, so mine is upright and round. Ok then, I'll look around for another ecm to match. Thanks again

So, the one for an AEL will work thou? I run this off road only, what will happen if it doesn't set the cel?

Yep, it'll work just fine and have newer code. You might want to get the alarm module that mates with it. I say that because sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. I had a buddy with a 97 with AEL and he had no problem with the newer ECU and his original alarm module. I, on the other hand needed the alarm box to go with the AEL ECU and I can only guess because mine isn't AEL. Just a guess. It's about a 50/50 shot.
