Default Electrical question '96 Disco1SD

Hi guys I'm new here and thought you might be able to help me out. When I turn the light stalk to the first position the running lights on my truck they all light up fine, when I turn it to the second position the headlights go on fine high/low works but the running lights go off. So the head lights and the running lights all work fine- just not at the same time. All fuses are good, no other electrical problems. When I brought the truck home it was missing the drivers side kick panel. It looks like there are four relays under that panel; two yellows, a green and a white. The white is missing. Could this have something to do with it? Any guidence you could give me would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I had a similar problem with my 97. When I would go from the first poition to the headlight position, my instrument cluster and taillights would go off completely.

The fault is the contacts that are contained in the turn signal stalk wear/get dirty.

You have a couple of options. Some people have done fine with taking the stalk out and taking it apart and do some manipulating/cleaning and managed to get it to work.
I chose to buy a replacement. New ones are quite expensive but you can usually get a good used one from either Will Tillery or Paul Grant at a very good price or look on EBAY for people who have stripped/parted out their Disco.

The same basic part is used in both the DI and DII so availabilty should not be a problem. If I recall correctly, Will sold me mine for 45 bucks including shipping. New is quite a bit more. I did not attempt disassembly with mine. I did find I could force the switch a little further with pliers and it would work for 1 cycle.

That was exactly the problem. Removed the switch, cleaned contacts, sprayed with WD40, now it works like new. Easy fix took 30 min. Thanks
