A dental pick works excellent, no futzing around. Thin stainless wire is next once you've opened the port. Soak em in kerosene, diesel or whatever you want.

The darkened rocker tip is more than likely your problem. Take a look at the push rod to see if it's not a perfect ball shape. When they wear they look like a mushroom. Look to see if the push rod is straight, not bent. Then look at the rockers oil ports to see if they're blocked. Rocker shaft under that rocker might also be blocked.

Soaked it in degreaser overnight and WHAT A DIFFERENCE... the oil port on #8 was blocked a bit i figure dthats why it had the darker color, cleaned up and looked fine. pushrod looked perfect as well

The drivers side I cannot say the same for....

Found 1 that is definitely broken, and one that is suspect....

Here are some images, scaled down for you ihscouts

The one that is suspect doesn't appear to be missing the button, but the top of the pushrod has a slight lip around the outside

Next question is this:

can I replace the 2 damaged rockers and their respective pushrods, or do I need to replace the entire rocker assembly................. and looking at rovahfarm there are several rockers available, how the heck do I know which one I need

Thanks bro for the tiny pics..... I can load the whole page! Dial-up sucks donkey d**k but when you live on a private road with no right-of-way, in the middle of a woods on a lake with hilly terrain there isn't much anyone is going to do for your internet **** lifestyle. Even the cell signal sucks, I used to tether to my laptop. I was getting maybe 144k and it cost as much as a home phone. I may be moving in the future, just waiting on a call. I'll be in civilization again which is great and sucks all in one. I'll be around a larger gathering of idiots once more.

Funny thing is that on the main road just a few thousand feet away the telco has a signal switch for DSL (mini main switch). They won't activate it since the housing boom here went bust. Already talked to an engineer down state about it. 10k to activate.

Interesting wear pattern.... pushrod reminds me of my ex-wife, ironically the cracked rocker does too.....

You need the aluminum rockers, not steel. Nice to have a choice eh! Yes you can buy just what you need to replace.

Glad your into what your doing, you'll see a huge return on your investments.

Amen on the blessing and curse... I wouldn't mind livin in the middle of nowhere, except for the issues with no i-net.. doing what I do for a living that makes it difficult to work

As for the wear pattern... ehhh thought similar actually lol

And glad to hear I can replace the worn ones and not all in this stage, the 2 that i mentioned I will definitely replace, the other looks ok but I really don't want to take the chance.

Also, I appreciate what you said on return on investment, the wife is not happy bout what I have been spending on this "700$ truck" lol

For the rockers, they are listed w/ "RH" and "LH" it's not completely clear what this is referring to.. on the shaft looking at the valves, both the warn ones appear on the right-hand side of the set on the drivers side. i will make this inquiry to rovahfarm as well, see if I get a response this time.

As I said previously, I may not know the most bout what i'm doing but I do respect the opinion of those that know better. You were right about the intake comin off easy, think I spent less time on the drivers side than I did the pass

Also, shouldn't the upper intake plenum have some sort of gasket and/or RTV?. ..... this seems to have been missing from mine

There is no gasket, but use thin coat of this instead of RTV... Anaerobic Gasket Makers & Flange Sealants : Permatex® Anaerobic Gasket Maker

got mine at NAPA. Lets things come apart later. Others that put RTV here later had issues taking it apart.

Aight, that stuff seems more expensive than standard RTV's ... 15$ or so for a small tube at advance heh, oh well small price to pay i suppose.

Waitin on some $$$ to get the rockers/lifters/rocker cover gaskets.... eager to drive the beast again

Got the rockers and pushrods in today, gotta say the pushrods look a bit odd compared to the stock ones .. oem was solid rod, new is a hollow rod with some ball end inserts ..

The rocker shaft was pretty easy to pull the parts off of, replaced the 2 rockers and re-assembled. In the next 1-2 days I hope to get it all put back together and see how it sounds.

Also ordered the replacement expansion tank from rovah, they shipped me a black one not clear .. should it matter as long as it's not a oem one? .. (kinda bugged the pic showed clear on the site when i ordered). Hard to tell how full the black ones are

I gotta stop by one day while you're working!
Does the black plastic have a horizontal seam? They were known for separating there.

Fish you should take him to visit Churubusco in YOUR truck. Let him bask in the shadow of the Mohawk......he deserves it.

Nuke, you can ask Trevor if it's the improved tank. Kinda odd it's black, I agree.
