Engine oil in expansion tank
My 1997 Disco 1, was working fine tonight. Made a stop and had to get a jump start. A few miles afterwards, coolant gauge shot up.,and when I looked under the bonnet most of my engine oil was leaking out of the expansion tank.
Could this be anything other than a leaking head gasket?

Check the oil dipstick, see if it's a chocolate milk shake color. If it is its head gasket failure. Just by the spike in temp it's pretty telling.
Thanks guys, Actually, it was a blown cylinder head gasket. There were no signs of coolant in the oil , but I have changed the oil, anyway cleaned most of the sludge from the system, Fitted my spare radiator. Now the bugger would not start. I am wondering if I had pinched the gasket on assembly, as I can hear a compression leak on turnover.

Pinching that gasket would be a real trick if you used the proper torque technique for the head bolts and did so in the prescribed sequence.
This may sound silly, but check your #8 spark plug. Some spark plug sockets are too large to fit past the exhaust manifold and the spark plug gets partially crossed and not set all the way in.
