You should count your lucky stars.

*first car
*can afford to do it right
*Grandpaw has a welder
*Grandpaw will weld it for you

With all the above, you should not even hesitate to buy a good quality muffler and fix it right since you plan on keeping it.

I did read on here a while back that these are designed to run with a certain backpressure. I would be concerned that running it as it is could be somewhat detrimental to it.

Fix it and move on to the next issue that arises. It is only a matter of time.

+1 on the above...

Update on mine.... I decided to just the the whole underside... It's a generic muffler, but it's all SS. All new SS mandrel bent pipe, all new SS hangers. $225 out the door.

So what is the inlet and outlet diameter of a stock muffler on a D1?

Turf, I am not familar with Phillie, but Pittsburgh has an abundance of places that do all kinds of stuff like that.

There are driveline shops that either have or make all sorts of driveshafts, plenty of alternator and starter shops, exhaust places, auto recyclers and an abundance of related places. There are so many that most are not even very busy. Also an abundance of closed down steel mills and processors.

Thanks for the link. I guess I'll be doing the exhaust, if not tomorrow, next weekend.
