Default exhaust manifold bolts?

I've got a '99 D1 and am in the process of installing new headgaskets and decided to order new manifold bolts.....but it has the '96 and older hex style bolts not the 12pt style that are supposed to be on a '99 D1. does it really matter which style I use?

thanks!

from my quick read through the manual, it seemed like the 12pt kind didnt need the metal retainers that the hex head ones did. and indeed my '97 has the 12pt kind with no retainers - that i recently had on and off to replace the gasket.

Thanks! I was wondering about the retainer use.....I'll prob buy the 12pt and ditch getting new retainers. funny thing, I had 3 of the 4 bolts on #6 & #8 cylinder partially spun out with the retainers in place with what looked like the proper factory bends on them......found my mysterious exhaust tick.
