Default Experiment

Well I removed my clutch fan 2 weeks ago to see what it does for my MPG.
So far I have noticed ZERO improvement, zero, zilch, none.
We are going to Traverse City for Thanksgiving so I will see what it does for MPG on a long trip, but so far for daily driving, no change.
My truck is quieter, but that's the only difference so far.

It probably doesn't lock up much this time of year.

Yes you are 100% correct on that Tom. lol
But I figured this was a safe time of year to figure out if the time and money spent on a electric fan conversion was worth it, and so far no it is not.
I dont sit in traffic so thats no issue for me, but I suppose someone who lives in NY would have to consider that.
If my results from the trip come back as I expect the fan will be going back on.

Well the results are in....drum roll....1.2mpg increase by not running a clutch fan.
To me totally not worth the time, hassle and cost of installing a electric engine cooling fan.
My clutch fan will be going back on Sat.

1.2 mpg will add up over time but I'm with you on your decision to put it back on. The fans on these motors don't really drag them down much and the 1.2mpg may fluctuate anyway. Clutch fans are one of those things that get hyped up as a serious mod when most of the time removing them makes little or no difference as you've experienced. Thanks for posting up your results now we have a figure to go on instead of a guess.

I would be curious on what the difference would be during warmer weather when the clutch would be engaged more.

Default Clutch Fan

I was driving with mine seized up for about a year. People would run the other way when they heard me coming. I got a new one from Rock Auto for about $100 and it made a heck of a difference, in power and noise output. I converted another car before to electric and wound up putting the clutch fan back on because the fan would cool, but the temp was always moving in a range and my eyes were always glued to the temp gauge waiting for the fans to come on.
