I recently purchased a used factory brush guard for my 96' Disco. It's in great shape, and after painting it flat black I went to mount it and realized I need some sort of mount or extension. I can see where it is supposed to bolt up but I need a piece to be able to do so. I've been researching it and can only find mounts for the Disco II. Considering just fabricating my own, but would much rather just buy the proper mounts. If anyone has dealt with this before a little advice would be great! Also where can I buy those mounts?

No mounts, it bolts right to the frame, the front license plate holder needs to come off.
Then remove the bolts that hold the front bumper on, then position the brush guard, put bolts back, adjust before tightening the bolts to line it up how you want.
It takes two people.

 

Take some pics so we can see, but the plastic front license plate mounting bit may be getting in the way. Trucks with the brush bar installed have a spcific piece that accommodates it. Just remove that and it'll fit.

You can do it on your own, but it's not easy and may ding up your freshly painted brush bar. Biggest concern is that if you remove all four mounting bolts the front bumper assembly may fall out. I can't explain how I managed to do it, but it was a pain. Good luck!

 

ummm.... if this bad boy also will cover your head lights, might be a great time to change head light bulbs. Don't know where mine came from, it does bolt to the frame.

So changing a headlight bulb is still no big deal.

 

Thanks for all the input! From the looks of it my brush guard doesn't reach all the way up under the bumper to the bolts shown in the pictures. But if I remove the front license plate holder and bumper will this change that? It looks as though it needs some sort of extension. I'll try and post some pictures soon!

 

No extension needed, it fits.

Yep, if you have the right allen socket on hand. And now that you have reminded me I'll go buy another set. Wonder if my offspring would like "Buzz Yeller" lamp guards?

But I think I had to take them off because the headlight just would not clear, perhaps because of a previous front end close encounter.

 

I removed those from my OEM brush guard and threw them out and then sealed the holes and painted the whole thing.

 

So, it just so happens that the brush guard that Motorcars Ltd. sold me a brush guard for a discoveryII, it is listed under 1996 discovery I, and after doing research I have definitely determined it is a disco II brush guard. I pulled apart the bumper to find that it does not match up with the frame as would a proper Disco I brush guard. I'm looking for options as I now have the bumper off and would like to replace it with either a brush guard, new bumper, or both. Obviously after I get a refund for the Brush guard. Thanks!
