Default Fan question

Dumb question, but do both electric fans turn on and off together, or are they individually controlled? I have never seen electric fans turn on during normal running, most likely because I am wicked OCD about keeping the temperature down, but noticed that when I turn the AC on only the left hand fan spins up. Is this normal, or is my right hand fan toast?

They both should run together. Sounds like the right fan is toast.

Contact Paul Grant and see if he has any.

Yes, both condenser fans should come on when you turn on the AC.
It could be the right fan is done for, but check the connector/wires first. I had this happen and the connector was the cause due to corrosion.

At least the good news is the fans are not turning on during normal driving, without the AC on. The fans will turn on independent of the AC when temps reach 212*F. That's a bad day!

Thanks, will get the meter out and have at it.

According to UG the highest I had ever seen for a coolant temp was like 202 while stuck in traffic in July for an hour, jot all jiggy and pulled over. Normally runs around 170 in the winter and 180 in the summer. If you’re going to OCD on something, this is a good candidate
