Default Finally a code!!! P1179

I finally I got a code.

Why does this make me happy? Because Im used my truck always acting up doing stupid stupid obviously crappy running and the unlit check engine light staring me in the face like 'what you waiting for, im running fine'

Well i keep hearing different things.

The code is for Maximum Negative AMFR

Im hoping this means its too rich but I keep reading people say its running too rich and is getting too much air.. Im like WTF?

Anyways I found one thread where the guys truck is doing the horrible rough start when hot dealio. But of course he never gave the solution..

I still haven't figured out when my truck is doing this if its because I have a leaky injector or if its not getting enough gas..

To me it SOUNDS like its not getting enough gas.. It just barely puts put.. put... put.. put.. giving it gas does nothing but i usually give it a little when this happens and it usually dies or catches and instantly revs while still idling rough.. As if it WAS running off 4 cylinders but now its got 6.

I want to fix this.. So is it TOO MUCH GAS or TOO MUCH AIR

it could also be a bad o2 or cat but that wont explain the hot start.

The AMFR stands for Air Mass Flow Rate, so it's trying to correct an intake airflow problem(or it thinks there's a problem). I had an 1176 code I chased for months. But thats a fuel mass flow rate code. Ended up being a vacuum leak at the vally pan gasket causing a lean condition.

Have you ever cleaned the MAF sensor? CRC makes a specific cleaner, used as directed, is totally safe(done mine 3 times and no prob's).

Yup I have the cleaner and I have a spare maf. I really don't want this code to be maf caused cause then it has nothing to do with my rough idle

I'm interested as well, as mine has been choking with a rough idle at warm/hot start too. No codes here, just a rough idle that acts like its about to stall then goes right up to normal. I'm going to start with the basics and go from there unless someone else finds the cause first.

Mine occassionally throws 1176 and 1178 or 9. But it stills runs really good. I am thinking my problem is that vacum hose on passenger side from valve cover to the intake area.
