Front Engine Cover Leak Write Up
Hi Everyone,
I have posted a write-up of my recent adventure in replacing the front engine cover gasket and other bits hidden behind it. Feel free to review and use, it was a success! I hope it is helpful!

Noooo, the orange RTV!!! Some idiot put the front cover back on my truck's engine using only orange RTV, which eventually led to a blocked coolant passage and a blown head gasket. They likely did that because the front cover wouldn't seal after the damage they did levering it off the block with what was probably a screwdriver. If your mating surfaces are dinged up, you can JB weld and then sand them. Did that on mine and the gasket alone seals fine.

When I see orange RTV, I immediately consider it a problem. I have walked away from used car sales when I see it in the engine bay. I like the JB weld idea a lot or any that reduces the use of RTV in any way for that matter. The new paper gasket that I bought had a thin line of black rigid material on one side down the centerline of the gasket, but it was not continuous and I did not want to risk ANY leaking.
Cheers.
