Well, this has ruffled some feathers of the parts vultures on the upper branches of the shade tree. We hold Dr. Grant in high regard, after all, he has owned more Rovers than most of us will ever see in one place, and has taken them apart to satisfy the never-ending search for pampered posh pre-owned sheet metal. Only a few people on the assembly line have ever seen all the innards that Dr. Grant has.

But I suspect that there is some truth in that, if I were in the great plains, by now the headlight assembly would have expanded by the ethylene gas given off in curing and exploded my battery, burnt down my shade tree, and put me outa business. Damn, this is my lucky day!

pix

results were mixed - improvement over water inside light housing, but faded internal reflective coating still makes head light poor on this side, may also be clouded bulb, will try new bulb, may try the chrome spray - any change will report.

I just bought a new headlight on eBay. 50 bucks and no more water or worry. I was about to put a gold fish in the S.O.B.

Now that could be a new environmental thread - stream crossing Discos destroy and kidnap endangered snail darter fish species, all permits for construction project on hold by EPA, 3,000 construction jobs lost....

Yep, Rovers North wants about $125 for one. I'm still looking into some way to polish what I have or re-coat, web review of chrome paint for this is negative.

Actually... You are going about this all wrong... Instead of polishing that turd of a Disco I headlamp, you should be going custom...

I have always liked the looks of round headlights. Especially if you have a bunch of Hella 500, 700, 4000 etc. The square headlamps just look dumb. I like the way the older Range Rovers and Defenders look with their no frills round headlamps.

I have been considering getting a sheet of black UMHW and cutting them in the same shape as the stock head lamp. Then fitting on the 3 mounting clips. Then cut a hole in the middle and mount a round standard headlamp. Then top it off with a steel mesh rock guard.

I will probably get to making a mock-up out of MDF, but the only thing that I have not figured out is how to mount a standard headlamp to it.

Here is the link to the UMHW. McMaster-Carr
