Default fuel gauge failing

1997 Disco I w/ AEL

It looks like I might need a new fuel pump assembly to rectify a funky fuel gauge.

There are $60 models on Ebay and $400 units at the parts houses.

Does anyone have any recent experience?

Got burned on ebay with counterfeit spark plugs, so I would shy away for something as important as a fuel pump. Unless you snag a cheap used one and swap the level sender part.

AutohausAZ has three models (All-Makes, Eurospare, and URO) to choose from all less than $80, two with free shipping, and other potentially needed parts (seal, wiring harness).

The Proline part is $140 at RoversNorth - good indy LR shops would use that part with no issue - Atlantic British does not say where their pump comes from on the website - it is $360 and for that price I would expect an OEM LR part - Craddock does not say what brand they are selling for $69 bp - LR dealers have OEM for $415 - If me I would go with the ProLine part from RN - Lucky8 might have Britpart for same price as the Proline at RN - $140 - just an FYI - if you order from Lucky8 order via ebay as you will get all of your $ returned - if you order through their website and return they will charge you a 20% restocking fee

there is a difference between the AEL and the non-AEL pump. And a big difference in price. The vin number ranges suggested don't match up with AEL v non-AEL so I plan on getting eyes on it before purchasing. I have little doubt I will need the more expensive unit since my truck has AEL (square canister)

So sorry you are + AEL - suggest you post your issues on the Disco 2 forums

The last D1 fuel pump I bought was for my 97 XD with AEL. Found it on Amazon & Ebay for 50-60.00 vs 500.00.

Mystery solved. Gonna replace the wire or replace the pump?

Looks like too much flexing and bending due to all those fill-ups. Maybe a good reason to always stay at least 1/2 full (optimist), or no more than 1/2 empty (pessimist).
