Question Fuel level sensor.

Here's my strange problem: I fill the tank, fuel gauge never goes above 3/4, but otherwise seems to work. (Gauge goes down as the vehicle is driven.) Ultra Gauge fuel menu gives me an error along the lines of "fuel sensor not found." If that's the case, as in the sensor doesn't work at all, why does the factory fuel gauge work, sort of?

A little more info: Gas tank appears to be original, but the two hoses running to the filler cap have been replaced. (The truck was in an accident back there at one time, minor body damage.)

Could be the tank is smushed and has a dent in it making it smaller.
Could be a bad float.
Could be a bad sending unit.

It is possible to replace the float or sending unit without replacing the tank, assuming it isn't smushed?

I'm not sure if this helps, my dash fuel gauge works fine however my ultra gauge says the same thing as yours and also has some bizarre mpg reading.

No you cannot just replace the sending unit, yes you could replace just the float if you could get a different one.

Ultra Gauge can't "see" the fuel sender, it does not report to OBDII port on a D1, so that is why "sensor not found." UG is generic for all OBDII vehicles, so there will be sensors that Disco does not have. As for the mpg, you'll have to move the decimal point.

Most times my fuel low light is on.. I always make sure I have enough gas before going way out there, like today.
