Hello-

I'm going to purchase a new fuel pump for my 1996 Disco 1 since mine is showing signs of failing- 21 psi measured at the engine rail, starting issues etc.

I was going to buy the kit from AB for ~ $250 but came across Lucky8s pump kit for $61; same o-ring seal and Swagelok pieces (at least from the pictures).

Am I missing something? Are there differences between the pump assembly AB sells vs the one Lucky8 sells like pump pressure capability or am I just going to over spend with AB?

Anyone order the pump assembly from Lucky8 and get a poor performing product?

AB puts out a good product and so does Lucky8 and they're both site sponsors. Take your pick, probably made by the same aftermarket company. I replaced just the pump with an Airtex pump motor for about $7 + fuel line hose, clamps and the sock filter. Ran like a champ for over eight years and 90k.

 

Yeah if the sending unit is working and just the pump itself is dead or weak, why not just replace the pump itself? I used a Delphi unit out of a 98 Corvette I think for like 56.00 and grabbed a new fuel pump sock while I was at it. Pump was the same exact size and I just had to fix the line and call it a day. Has been in for 3 years now with zero issues.

 

Wow I wish they made a 61$ pump for AEL models.....

 

The fuel pump itself is the same. My D1 is a 98. The fuel pump housing is the difference.

 

Dang that's good to know. Guess I might just grab one and pull the parts off and put in my housing. I haven't seen it but I'm thinking the housings good. Seen tons of pump assemblies and can't ever recall a bad or broken housing come to think of it. That white plastic they're constructed of seems to hold up pretty good.

 

Yeah it's normally just a broken wire on a sending unit (easy fix) for the most part. I'm very pleased with my setup. Don't forget a new fuel pump sock. Mine was completely gone, and change the filter at the same time.

 

so just to clear up the only thing I'll need the pre-ael lacks is the sock? I'm gonna grab a new seal and wire harness since I'm already going to be there. Retaining rings in good shape so I'm planning on reusing that.

As far as the filter I did it like three months ago so I'm good there.

 

To rebuild your pump you should just need the new fuel pump itself and a new sock.

 

Anyone have a recommendation for said pump and sock? I'm having trouble sourcing just those without a whole assembly? Anyone previously bought have a make/part #'s?? Thanks!
