Default Fuel Pump Question

So I noticed a whine from my disco 1 every time I press on the gas pedal, and it feels like my car is lacking its normal 'oomph'. I stuck my head near the back right tire and it smelled like something was wrong too. Is this my fuel pump? Trying to diagnose as a first time owner but I have a lot to learn still. It has 139k on it too and the service records show that it has never been replaced before so I think its failing. The car still turns over but I'm worried about the noise and the smell coming from that area.

Thanks!

A dead/dying fuel pump would have no particular smell at all. A smell from that area of the truck could be something as simple as a dragging brake caliper.

What year is the truck?

Get yourself an OBD live data reader. Look in the sticky for details. It is the BEST $35 you will ever spend on your truck. Hands down.

Just wondering what was the wrong smell that you picked up (i.e. fuel, hot wire, etc)? Also the whine that you are hearing, does it sound like it is more from the rear or the front, and any specific side of the vehicle? Also would second the picking up a obd II reader as they will help out a lot. The one I got was a bit more expensive, but that is because it also does OBD 1 for a lot of other cars I have :P. Would also recommend downloading/bookmark the Rave manuals/link that WaltNYC has in their signature as those will also be a huge help as you come across issues/needing to repair things.
