Default fuel pumps help needed please

I am trying to help a single mom (ex-daughter-in-law)with 2 little kids out that has a 1999 discovery sd with a bad fuel pump. She is financially strapped and I am slightly better off. I realize that a factory pump is best but is out of price range completely. Her vehicle is roughly worth a $1000 (if it were running ). It does not make sense spending $500 on repairs. I really need to get it going for her if I can.

Having said that, I found a replacement after market unit on ebay for $93. It only has one 4 pin electrical connection on top where her's has a 4 pin and a 3 pin. Can I make it work? What is the extra 3 pin connector for?

Is an inline after market unit a viable alternative?

If neither of the above is practible, does anyone around Atlanta need one for parts? Thanks folks. Any advice would be appreciated.

You might pull one from one of the large junkyards in Atlanta.

In line after market not viable.

Airtex E3270 pump motor has been swapped in by a number of folks who post here. Like $50 - $70 at parts store.

Once you get it running, try to get her into another vehicle. A Disco is not the vehicle of choice for this situtaion and you will be doing a lot more repairs.

is the the truck a D1 or a D2? that will make a difference in the pump you can use. mid 99 Land Rover made a change with the Discovery.

You might consider a used pump from one of the vendors on here. Paul Grant or Will Tillery are both good guys to buy from. I have bought from Will several times and usually very fast turn around and a warranty on the used parts. I've only ever heard good things about Paul Grant, good service and fast turn around.

That is all good info. If the tail lights are below the glass in the back door, it is a Discovery I, if even with glass in the door it is a Discovery 2 and will have different parts.

thanks for the info. From your info, it appears to be a I. One additional question please. If I get the one with the single 4 prong plug from ebay Fuel Pump Gas Module Assembly Unit | eBay , could i disassemble it and transfer the new pump motor to the old fuel pump assembly?

Thanks for all your help. If we can get it going, I suggested advertising on craigslist wanting to trade the discovery 4wd for an economy car with air! She needs economy, reliability and cheap to maintain.

Again, thanks for all yor help.

I would suppose you could, but buying from a dismantler that frequents this site means you will be dealing with someone who knows the parts, and if the truck was driven in under its own power, etc. They toss the junk and sell what is left, one guy has parted out more than 400 Rovers.

Here is one listing from Paul Grant - http://www.ebay.com/itm/Land-Rover-D...ht_2035wt_1320

Equally, the wiring diagrams are in the RAVE shop manual, which is a free download below. They have connector layouts, color codes, etc.

Don't need truck on the side of I-285 with grand kids inside.

Call Paul Grant and buy a good guaranteed used one for a lot less. Don't buy the pump with the extra connections cause it is not for her truck.
Pauls number is in my signature section below.

It is important to be sure which truck you have, two versions sold that year.

Wrong. It's a 99 meaning it WILL have two plugs on top.
OP, if you're considering swapping putting just the pump from a four pin pump into your unit, you should just buy the Airtex pump Savannah mentioned and install it into your existing housing.
