Guess my spidey sense was right.

In one of the RAVE D2 pages which was posted recently (IIRC it was on the knock sensor - found it: https://landroverforums.com/forum/at...d-d2-knock-pdf posted by Savannah Buzz), it stated (in my words, since I can't cut-n-paste) that the ignition is calibrated for 95 RON/premium gas, but will operate "satisfactorily" on 91 RON/regular gas. The knock sensor will adjust the timing down if pre-ignition is detected. So the computer is expecting to run lots of advance and if the fuel can't support that much advance, then the timing advance is reduced.

Almost makes me which I had a GEMS and could do some testing and recording of the timing curve... almost. I dig the 14CUX, but can appreciate the better management of GEMS. I'm a little slow on this EFI stuff, so I best stick with 14CUX for now.

Thats the beauty of GEMS, it is only 1 step up from the 14CUX.
You are 1 step removed from a carb, I am 2 steps removed from a carb.
The DII is do far away from a carb it lives in another country.
