Default Gear selector **** removal Disco I

Can someone tell me how to remove the gear selector **** on 97 Disco I?Trying to replace torn up selector sliding tape. Everything is out except can't get **** off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Pop the cover off the top with a small screw driver. Remove the clip. Remove the plastic wedge thing. Remove the button from the side. Remove the nut. Pull up.

That's it! There's a small clip on top of the wedge-thingy. Once you take that off, it all comes apart.

OK, so there is a nut below all this and once removed the **** can be pulled off?

Yes. I think it may require a deep-well to get down past the stud and it's a fairly large one.

Success !!!...has "murphy" would have it got to the last brass screw in upper left corner and the head stripped out, finally worked it out w/needle nose pliers. Thanks to all for the suggestions. I'll let u know how it all goes back together.

19mm nut. Most often you don't even need a socket. A flat head screwdriver can be used to loosen the nut. It's usually on that loose.
