4:11 seemed a perfect fit and function with 33. But if you have a lot of extra weight and resistance, that too should be factored in. That was the deciding factor for me. Only running 32s and 34s, but the s***ton of other weight and resistance.....assured that I can cruise fine at 85mph. I will know in a couple of weeks.

I've never really noticed the sluggish factor, my first d1 the speedo was broken and I need got around to repairing it so when I got the newer one it was all new to me. The extra weight an resistance factor makes a ton of sense but I'm still unsure of what I want to decide on but I've got to save up for them first

Slow as *****? I've got 265/75-16's on my 04 with stock gears and the thing rips for a heavy SUV. Maybe it's the 4.6 vs the 4.0 but I see no need for new gears with these tires. They are about 10% larger than stock so 4.11's would bring me back to the stock rpm's but it seems to do fine as it is. I run around 72 on the highway (per GPS) and with the cruise on it hardly ever needs to downshift on hills. I imagine lower gears would be helpful in the rocks so if it were more of a trail rig I would look at the biggest set I could fit.

Upgrading gears is about more than just RPM's. A lot of it is that the new gears are stronger than the stock gears. Also, the front Rover diff actually drives on the wrong side of the teeth when moving forward. This is far from ideal but it makes swapping diffs easy. A decent set or upgraded gears will have reverse cut front gears, so the teeth are driven on the correct side thereby improving strength.

This is similar to how lockers are about more than just locking the diff. The locker is much stronger than Tue stock open diff, so you shouldn't have to worry about shredding spider gear teeth with larger tires.

Dusty I think you are going to find that your engine is going to be turning some high revs at 85, you ratios work out pretty close to my 110 with the 4 speed dump truck geared tranny. You are going to be running 3500 rpm at 85 with 32's and about 3250 with 34's. That is working the engine pretty hard to me for sustained highway driving. That's why mine is getting a 5 speed or a zf come spring.

That said, I would have gone with the 4.12's.

Great now that I will not worry about scrambling more diffs I can just pop that combustion thingy that makes it spin fun stuff. Guess I can just keep her at 75, but then everyone will see my scratch n dent paint job.

You will still scatter diffs with stock open spider gears, gears or not.

sorry, yeah...trutracs going in with the (possibly too low) gears.
bet I can still bust up those brittle cv joints, though. sling shot ammo abounds.
