Default Getting Ideas/thoughts

Hello, I am currently deployed and weighing my options... Before I left, I took my Landy off road and drove it through a puddle, maybe 18" deep and it stalled out my engine. I restarted it, and it took a second, but it turned on. I gave it some gas, and it stalled out again. I restarted it after about a minute or two of letting it sit. I slowly gave it gas and it eventually crawled out of the puddle. I'm debating on getting the engine rebuilt, or just trying to clean up the outside of the engine and seeing if it's cracked allowing water into the cylinders.... If so, I'm going to probably try to seal it with Copalite since a rebuild would be super expensive and probably not fix the stalling. Or, the other possibility, is to try to keep it out of the water, but I bought it for a Kayaking rig, so that's going to be a hard feat.. So, should I rebuild it and see what happens, just clean it up and try to reseal it, or drive it as is until it dies and possibly get another used rig after that?

It is unlikely you cracked the block wading through 18" of water. And sealing it is not a viable solution.

More likely you got your ECU (main computer for the truck) wet and the aluminum box surrounding the circuit board is no longer water-resistant/ water-proof. There may also be some corrosion on the board. All this can be worked out.

When you return, let us know how it runs (or doesn't run), take a look at the color of the oil, check levels, and we can help.

Thank you for your service. Get home safe.

So, the ECM behind the battery or the one under the glove box? I don't see how either could get wet with only 18" of water, but I will definitely look when I get back. The guy staying at my place has been starting it, and it runs with no problems he says. So, the way I'm leaning towards now, is to drive the truck till it dies. Once that happens, on to the next one! I like the Land Rovers, they are exactly what I need.

Either the puddle wasn't 18" or you were going way too fast. Did you check how much water got in your airbox? You probably drowned the MAF.
