I'm going to resurrect this thread. My new to me Disco is in need of a radiator. This thread has my seriously considering going with
2002 S10 Radiator
Aftermarket EOC
Not sure on TOC. The stock cooler and the one in the new rad seems to be more than an S10 had. Possibly delete radiator option all together and get RR P38 cooler or aftermarket.

S10 rad would not be bad.

Looks nothing like this... but this cooler is the perfect size.

this guy fit perfectly.. got some stainless screws from home depot, drilled a couple holes in the support for the coolant overflow tank, and mounted this below.

Find a local source for the 1/2in ID hydraulic line, i got 10ft as my routing was a little wierd... will re-do the routing when I change out the condenser core

I gotta pull pics off my old work phone... i'll try to remember to do that today.

If the tanks are good you can get it recored with a HD core. If you take care of it after that it will outlive the truck.
Lack of maintenance is what causes peoples' radiator problems.

The cost of recoring will be more than an S10 setup and even more than an EBay aluminum Rover radiator. I had my genuine radiator recored in 2010 and it was $365. At the time it was the cheapest option available.
Also, I had a hard time finding a place that would recore. Our of about 4 local shops only 1 actually knew how to do it or would do it. And even he questioned how economic recoring would be versus buying a replacement. That was until he looked it up and saw a genuine was over $700.

Exactly. The two shops that do it here didn't want to touch it because the tube diameter is so small. If it were 365 and I never had to worry about it again I might think about it.

I was thinking about running the S10 set up because it sounds like it's an upgraded system for cheaper than a stock replacement. It gets rid of the stupid lower hose. And adds a regular cap to allow easier bleeding. If I go with external coolers, it sounds like the cooling capicity of the radiator would be greatly improved.

Yeah, but it's a drop in swap, no mods needed (other than having a petcock drain. Plus you don't have to worry about plastic tanks getting brittle and cracking. There's a reason people replace the plastic plugs on the stock radiators with brass plugs. Cheaper doesn't always mean better.
The only aluminum one I'd consider is one of the ones that's 100% aluminum, including the tanks, but they are in the $700-$900 price range.

To each their own though.

Does any one know the specific application for the lower hose? Thread mentioned something about a chevy 3500. But no engine size. Diesel. Gas. Big block. Small block. All look like different hoses. Or maybe a part number?
