Default A good deal or not?

I saw this ad and wanted to see what others, who are more knowledgeable, thought. Everybody needs a trial buggy, but would this be a deal for 1500.00 oran endless money pit. The guy said "it has 122k miles, runs great, 4wd is outstanding. It needs a windshield and winch cable. " I'm sure it needs more to be sure.

I bought my '99 D1 with 119k miles for $1k. No rust, no major issues. I would pass on this one just because of the rust. But the grey interior is somewhat rare.

In about a months time you're going to be welding the A, B, and C pillars to nonexistent rocker boxes and body mounts. It's beat to death and only worth grabbing for the goodies as a parts truck. Mine buckled and split the rear passenger floor because of the same body rot issues.....and coincidentally it was Altai Silver. I'd offer $500 and find another one in better shape to bolt all of that stuff onto plus have spares. If they won't take the offer pass on it, dead serious.

Where is this at? I'd love to have the rock sliders, lockers front and rear, moser axles, diff guards, HD stainless steering linkages, tires and wheels, Might even trade the OME lift and shocks for my Terrafirma depending on condition. I just brought a similar one home for a parts truck and my wife would probly kill me but that would save thousands in new parts.

I've parted trucks like this in the past and found that most of the off road stuff was worthless. Rust doesn't discriminate. It gets to the cool stuff just as bad as it gets to the rest of the truck.

WOW........ what a TURD at ANY PRICE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That poor thing looks like its been ridden hard, and put away wet MANY TIMES.
Please don't waste your money on this POS. And IMHO, if the owner offers it to you for free.....PASS. Unless you need a new house for stray dogs to live in then take it.

I'd say it's a good deal IF you want all those parts. I'd you tried to buy all those parts usedindividually you'd be well over the asking price.
Let's break it down:
Lockers setup in thirds, $700
RTE front bumper w/winch & synthetic line, $7-800
RTE rock sliders, $350
RTE skidplate, $150
RTE steering rods, $100
Moser axles, $300
OME lift, $300
Tires, $500

That said you can bet the steel aftermarket parts will need some love with a wire brush and spray can.
Basically the truck would be good for parts to put on a cleaner truck.

If it runs and drives its worth it for a trail only rig or pull the off road goodies and put them on a disco in better shape... I'd buy it wheel it to death and then switch parts over
