Default Got schooled today offroad

I went out for the first time on an offroad trip with a 4x4 group in which I am a member, it was minus 10 cel. I got about less than a mile in and the first ruts heading up a hill and I got hung up. A toyota forerunner went around me and pulled me out, in another 50 feet I got hung up again there was a guy watching me and said there did not seem to be anypower going to the rear wheel .I tried the diff lock in both positions and nothing moved. So rather than hold everybody up I and a few others thought it best I head home. I figured I would have no problem keeping up because there was a jeep liberty with simple all season tires ,how he made it along I have no idea. my diff lock is freed up but I have never seen the light on, also I have a set of the michelin 4x4 tires that were stock on the disco when new. As a good excuse I was following the pack of about 15 vehicles and was only focusing on the bumper ahead of me and if I had the space I would have tried to strattle the ruts. How can I check to see if everything is functioning in the diff lock and what can I do to make it more capable off road or do I have to get more experience thanks

maybe your diff lock is disconnected?

Fixing a Land Rover Discovery Stuck Differential Lock or Transfer Case there is a video here that shows the linkage real good

after watching several of the british man's diff lock videos I am sure mine cannot be engaging I cleaned and lubed everything this past summer when I had it apart and I noticed that diff lock lever but thought at the time it was just a pivot point because it really did not move much so I have to go back at it and see what I can do to get it working I like the hole in the tunnel but not sure it would be so great in our climate.

I'm in the same boat as you. Don't think it's locking and the light isn't coming on either..

I think I'm just going to drain mine and take off the cover and see what's what...

I tore it apart today and the levers and whatever else would not move the diff lever so I engaged it with a pry bar and the light came on in the dash ,so in the whole time I have had the truck that was the first time the diff was engaged > amasing to think of what I went through with no diff lock .Had I known it was not working I would not have even tried.

Trick is to shift it more often so it doesn't freeze up and if it does, it is usually tjhe gear shify pivot that cause it. Make sure it is free on mud and junk then grease it.
