Default grille guard mounting

I got a grille guard with my truck, 1999 D1, and tried to slip it in place. It didn't want to go on easily. The bolts holding the bumper in place came ff easily enough, but the guard wouldn't go on. There is a plastic air flow splitter under the bumper that seems to be in the way, does that need to come off?? part number on grille guard is STC8454AA which seems to be for a 1994-1999 Any ideas??

Thank You!!
Thought that was what I tried but it didn't want to fit over the bumper or go high enough. I'll have to try again.

My truck used to have a grille guard, but it rusted out so I removed it.

I do have notches in the front fascia for the guard. You may have to cut some plastic so it'll fit in there.

Pics attached for reference.

I had never seen that document before. Very interesting. There was a rear spoiler option for a D1??!!! Crazy. And there is a bunch more info in there too.

Thank you!
