Hard Decision...

Well, with either vehicle the freshman is prepared for the intense study of ornithology that is so common with new men on campus - the relentless search for the ever elusive sulphur-crested double-breasted mattress thrasher... once these are located, return trips to home will be far less frequent!

Caleb,
What year is it? I really liked the early 240 SX's, especially the fastback version. When I lived in Titusville Florida, my ex was taking me back to court to try and get mjore child support. My laywer took one look at my income and expenses and asked right away if I was happy with what I was driving. I told him it was alright, but I would like something better. He told me either I increase my expenses or she would get most of it, so that weekend I drove the Grand Prix to orlando and came back home in a new 1986 280ZX 2+2 that was brown trimmed in gold. Tht was one awesome car. I put over 300,000 miles on it over the next ten years or so.
I would jump on that 240 without doubt.

Lots of good info. I've been in your exact shoes. When you are off at school the intentions are good to come home, but you will do it less than what you think. You know your vehicle and what is in need of repair. Gas is expensive but it will take a long time to recover the costs of the fuel. Not to mention, you repair the BMW one time and you offset all the savings you thought you would have. I sold my gas hog for a more echo friendly car, and should have stuck with the car that I knew.

On the other hand, I always liked having more than one car at my disposal. When I had my 280 ZX2+2, I also had a 73 Mustang Grande, When I had my Bronco, I also had an Olds 88 and a Chrysler AFifth Ave. When I had my Benz, I also had a 928.
It is good to have a choice of what to drive on a given day. Having only one vehicle sucks. Having two keeps you from running one to death.
