Default Hard shifting, Bad dist. advance and lost vacuum line

I just bought a 95 disco with 180,000 as a project car it has a list of issues I finished most of the work and I can now drive it. The first issue is it automatic shifts hard when first put into gear(hot or cold) and accelerating shift is delayed and hard a little from 1 to 2 and more from 2, 3 and 4.
It also down shifts hard when slowing down. I just checked fluid hot and seems it has too much fluid.
Will this cause hard shifting??? Or could it be a kick down or governor issue. I have not changed fluid yet and I am afraid to. It seems a lot of people have issues after change!

The second issue is bad dist. adv. and the question is. I got a used vacuum adv and it seems ok.
If I tear apart my dist. and replace the vacuum adv. would it help my dist or does the whole thing need to be replaced?
What goes bad in the distributor? And why does the adv have 2 nipples but only one hooked up{the bottom one}?

The last issue is I have 1 vacuum line coming from the top of the air cleaner and was routed back behind the brake booster. The end looks jagged like it broke off but I cannot find where it went to.

I now its a lot but I need I need help
So Thanks!!!

The jagged vacuum line I'd wager is for your cruise control. Look for a vacuum solenoid at the throttle body. If there's no line there, that's your line behind the brake booster.

On the distributor advance, you should be able to replace the vacuum actuator separately.

Change the fluid. Drive a few days, change again. Do this like three times, to get out old fluid trapped in torque converter. If still shifting hard, try a bottle of Lucas Tannsmission Fix. Lucas Transmission Fix : Lucas Oil It does not have solvents, so it does not break loose more gunk. Many trannys are running today with Lucas in them while owners save up for repairs. I got an extra 150,000 miles out of a Montero Sport with Lucas.

Hi, I am having a similar transmission problem with my 97 Disco (hard downshifts). Did you ever get to the bottom of it? Did 'Savannah Buzz's' suggestions help?
