Default Hawkeye tester

Thinking about getting a Hawkeye tester for my 99 Disco 1. Would like to get opinions on this tester; as well as any negative experiences or drawbacks (other than the price! ) to this diagnostic test unit?

Also any tips etc in its use / operation / care / etc. etc. etc.

Any advice and observations in reference to the above would greatly appreciated!

I like it for my discovery II. Not sure how much a D1 guy would need it. It will probably talk to the security system and the air bag and stuff like that that other scanners won't. Also, some have pointed out GREAT prices on ebay, like $200 less than retail.

What would you do with it on a D1 that you would not do with a plain jane code scanner, or ultra gauge? How often would you do this? Would it be cost effective comparing DIY and basic gauge to DIY and Hawkeye? Or a Rovercom, or other high end products. My point being that having to pay a pro shop one in a while might save you a stack of folding money on test gear that you seldom use all the functions of. Not saying it is not a cool instrument. Just hard for me to let go of 1/3 the purchase price of my Disco for test gear.

Exactly. I bought mine shortly after I paid about $6000 for my D2. It was an easier sell. If I'd paid $2500, probably not so.

Great food for thought by each of you. My situation is that currently I am stationed in Germany in a remote area. Serious language bearer and locations of good mechanics can be far away. Researched various models and determined that it will run complete system diagnostics, reset all codes, live data, and is basically stupid proof and broken down crayon style ( for me that's a plus!!! ). In addition, it can be upgraded for use on other models as well. This feature may be handy in 4 years when I retire and move to our ranch in New Mexico. Positive I will be adding to our Land Rover family by then.

Actually, I have a feeling my wife has already ordered the unit and all accessories for me.

After two former practice wives; I keeping this one!!!!

Thank you each for the words of wisdom. They are valued greatly.

With version 5, I can confirm it WILL on D2. I don't have a D1 anymore, nor do I have the code for D1 anyway.
