great info guys. Thanks!

I thought mid-14's was too much, but these things are so beefy in so many ways..... I really didn't;t question it too much.

I'm replacing o2 sensors today, and hoping to have it inspected. then this'll be my next task.

Again: thanks for making Disco ownership EASY!

huh....
red batt light just came on, and voltage reads at 11.8

I guess my course of action was just changed-up! but really: $195 for an alternator? c'mon....

Yep, you are no longer charging the battery. You can charge up overnight and run around for a few minutes, but it is time for an alternator or replace that regulator & brush set. As the brushes (carbon sticks) wear down, they get to a point where they touch / don't touch. You just passed that point. If yop buy rebuilt by big box store get a warranty, they have a high failure rate. There is also the junkyard, from a D1 or some Range Rovers. D2 not a swap. Indy shop can rebuild for about $100 sometimes. I think BP Utah sells the brush and regulator sets for like $70.

Do not buy a rebuilt alternator from your local parts store, it will fail in short order, which is what yours did.
I went though 4 rebuilt's in 2 years.
There is a place on e-bay that sells good rebuilt alternators for about $200 if I remember right.
I got a used one, it has lasted longer than all of the rebuilt's combined.

i have never had any issues with rebuilt alts from napa. im sure its the same as any other auto parts store. or i have extremely good luck. well since you have to change the alt might as well change the belt out. most likely overdue.

the last time my alt went out i was charging at 18v. looked like i had high beams on at all times. shocked i didn't cook anything.
