Where is a good place to get some heavy. 85W140 gear oil ?

They don't have it at Advance Auto or at The one next door who shall remain nameless..

I used Wal-Mart brand last time.
Traveller from Tractor Supply Company before that.

 

If you have an R-380 you do not want to use 85W140 in it.
It is ok for the transfer case, diffs, swivels and hubs though.

 

I bought 4 gallons of Lucas 85-140 on eBay. Even with shipping it was the best deal I could find. Came out to $5.81/quart.

Because it's too heavy for it. The R-380 takes MTF.

 

Thats the 5-speed gear box just so everyone knows.
It takes manual transmission fluid (MTF) just like Tom said.

And honestly originally I was not thinking 5-speed when you said that, I was thinking the Borg Warner t-case of the RRC, not sure why I was, but I was.

 

Don't the automatic ZF transmissions use MTF also now? Due to a tsb or something?

 

No, the ZF's still use ATF.
AFAIK

 

They dont TSB cars this old.
