help with identification
Inherited 96 Discovery from brother. No experience with these vehicles at all. Has 133,000 miles on it. He probably ragged it to pieces, runs awful. After getting on here a month ago found out I need to use premium and have been since. Brother probably never did. CEL and SEL on. Took to Autozone, got codes p0307-misfire cylinder 7 and p1316 excessive emissions. Spent 2 hrs on hear earlier reading threads about these codes. Am going to order magnacore wires and install Bosch +4 plugs after all my reading. Hope that is a step in the right direction. Took a look under the hood and couldn't identify some parts. Took pics and would appreciate any help with identification. The first pic is of a vaccum? hose coming out of the firewall, it has a splitter on it, one hose runs along the drivers side panel to nothing (have no clue where it should be hooked up), the other hose runs to the thing in the next picture. The last picture is of something on the passenger side of the vehicle. Thanks for any help!

first pic is the cruise control tee fitting. One line goes through the firewall to the brake switch, one goes to the throttle bladder (2nd pic) and one goes forward to the vacuum control unit.. in front of the airbox, tucked away..
As for the red service engine soon light...that light show no codes, it is a emissions reminder and you need to reset it manually.

Thanks to all that replied. This is not my everyday driver, so do I need to worry about fixing the cruise control? The vaccum line that runs to the front of the vehicle is not connected to anything, will this cause problems with anything if I don't fix it? Thanks for the help!
cut the lines so the cracks are missing and reinstall the t connector. give yourself a little wiggle room so you don't screw yourself. It doesn't have to be completely seated just fit on the edge to draw a vacuum. A mm at least.
and the third picture is the purge valve.

Crack vacuum lines for the cruise control won't cause any problems other than the cruise won't work. I didn't use my Discovery as a daily driver but I found the cruise control to be very nice on the long drive to some of the trailheads.
Since no one else has mentioned it, the third picture is part of your emissions system. It is a purge valve for the evaporative loss system. Essentially the evaporative loss system collects the vapor from the fuel tank and sends them to the engine to be burned. The purge valve is there in case pressure becomes too great in the EVAP canister and will vent the excess pressure.

I fixed my cruise with Liquid Tape, been working for 3 years now and I use my cruise EVERY WHERE, even in town, longer than a mile? Cruise.
It will set at 25mph, so that long 25 mph street with the cops at each end...no speeding ticket.
