Question Help with SRS light

I have a 95 discovery that the SRS light has flashed on sence I bought it .The dealership I bought it at (not a rover dealer) said it was because the battery died on the lot and it needed to be reset at the dealer . Have read some other questins on here about the same light and none have said it was because of the bat. so I thinks he dont know what he is saying .1. is this a poss. and 2. I have read that cleaning the connectors could help but only the drivers side has the wires to it . Is my car missing something ? and what other sugestions does anyone have and if it is a sensor about how much are they and where do I get them and are they hard to replace myself or do I have to get a mec to do it ? I know its a lot of ??? but any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

The battery going dead had nothing to do with it.
You need to take it to a Rover dealer and get the codes read, could be a bad sensor or it could be a bad airbag module, could be anything.

before you run to the dealer see if there are any local indie shops (not sure where you are located) that have the tools to read your SRS sytem. I have one near me and he will do it for free although that is not common it could save you $100. Have you checked the grounds on the seat belt pretensioner? i would start there and make sure they are clean and tight.

you need to download the RAVE manual from http://www.landroverresource.com dont bet on mechanics knowing anything. You are going to have to learn as much as you can about your truck to save yourself loads of money in the long run.

If you had a DII you would have seatbelt pretensioniners and all kinds of electric gizzmo's hooked upto your SRS system, but you had a dumb old DI.

LR says to replace the SRS sensors every 10 years because they go bad, that is most likely your problem, they went bad, but you cannot know for 100% until you get the codes read.
Not many shops will have the computer to do this, but just open the Yellow Pages and start calling around to shops and ask if they have either Testbook or a T-4 computer.

Spike is correct. Don't look for something you don't have. (seat belt pretensioners) D1's are alot simpler like Spike said, there is either one or two sensors under the bonnet depending on you VIN. check to make sure their mounting screws are tight and the wires are not damaged. If it is not a problem with a sensor than its an actual airbag unit that has failed. whatever you do make sure to unhook the battery for 15 mins before doing any work on the SRS system.
