High Idle is back AGIAN! 3rd time
And I really wish I didn't spend the 136$ to simply have it reset, well it worked for a while but now its back. And now that I think about it, there was a reason it got the way it was and it was bound to happen agian.
Last time I experienced this the idle jumped up and down up and down, and now its doing the same just less often. And more up than down
Thankfully I have a scangauge wich tells me the TPS position. Its was at 18 then 19 and now 20 when its supposed to be at 11.
Also the lights being on or off seems to change the idle speed a little.
Im betting it is one of the following.
ECU
TPS
BATTERY
And im going to replace them in that order, because I can get a ECU for cheap and Id like to have it for a backup. Then a TPS because the battery still tests good.
Could it be a bad wire? Maybe.. but I really dont have the money for this right now.

With the utmost admiration & respect, do you remember I bypassed my IAC?
I blocked the hole inside the throttle-body with a piece of maleable alum wrapped around edge & clamped by the flex connector.
I can still set my rpm if necessary by sliding the piece over the hole.
I just can't bring myself to paying the dealer for something like that.
luck,greg

my bet is TPS i've have 2 go haywire before. i know theres a way to troubleshoot with a makeshift tester something like a 9 volt batt. and ohm meter.
someone might know more about what im talking about....

The IAC serves (2) basic purposes, (1) to increase rpm on (cold) startup, (2) to increase rpm under a/c load - both as dictated by ECM.

Check this out, today i start it up and its fine. Shut it down and a few hours later its back.
So I unscrew the TPS the idle instantly falls and TP is at 6, The second i try to reinstall it, it revs back up, when i simply push or line up the holes.
Do i need a new one? I dont have 80$ for a new one, and this one is from a junk yard, the old one was probably fine but i crushed it. This was from last time I had this issue, problem is I never tried running it with the sensor off.
It also sounds like it could be the throttle stuck open, but its not. Is the peice that extends into the tps a permant part of the butterfly valve?

used ones are still around 40$
kragen had some off brand new ones for 55$ if i remember correctly... make sure its the right connector type there are 2 diff ones

I know this is a VERY old thread, but I'm having an issue with high idle as well. Is it likely that my IACV is bad if the idle drops down after turning on the A/C? If I replace the IACV do I need to go to a dealer and have the ECU reset?
