I'm thinking of replacing my ECM on my 96 D1. I have a new ECM. but no new BCM, not really sure what a BCM is and where it's found? The manual talks about a "BeCM" but very vaguely mentioned.

According to the manuals, pin 26 on C507 of the ECM is the "BeCM Engine Immobilization input" which is a input "Serial 0 - 12V (366 baud)".

What I call the BCM is the alarm module in the passenger foot well (green box) changed mine out with no problems.

The alarm in a Discovery is called a 10AS (green box). BeCM is a Body Electric Control Module and that is found on the P38 and you do not ever want that to go nuts because you'll be paying big bucks to repair/reprogram or scrapping the vehicle. That is what puts the messages in the display right under the gauge cluster in a Range Rover. Everything gets tied into it. The DII uses a BCU - Body Control Unit - alarm.

Ihscouts, thanks for the clearifacation on this I'm still a newbie when it comes to the electrics on a LR. I did change out my 10AS box and ECU from a junkyard truck and it ran, but with an high idle (1700rpm) on my D1. So I had a mechanic reset my old original ECU and old AS10 box but the alarm (AS10) wouldn't reset so I'm back to the original ECU with a different 10AS box (from the yard) on my truck and it works like brand new if that is clear as mud.
The key here is DON'T immobilize your truck without the key FOB or you'll have to go through this.
