high idle/skips/hesitates at 1%-5% throttle
well boys ya hit the nail on the head when you said ecu!!! i pulled it out and it had about a dime size hole in the bottome where it had rusted out, jb welded it and sealed it up!!! now if i can just get the idle down i should be all set for winter!! checked for vac leaks cleaned the iacv and throttle body, im thinking maybe tps?? cuz it still wants to flutter at 1%-5% throttle any thoughts on that???????
Your symptoms also describe how a TPS fails. It is a mechanical switch (potentiometer) so it does tend to wear more in a certain spots based on driving style. So, yes you can get dead spots in a TPS. Hook up a multimeter and test the output signal. You should see a steady increase in voltage as you manually open the butterfly valve / throttle. If it's jumpy or erratic then the TPS is trash.
Idle speed is determined by the measurement of engine temp, air flow (and intake air temp if it's '96 on), TPS, O2's and at startup only, fuel temp.
Since you said, "once the motor is warmed up however iit runs just fine (minus the idle)"... I think its a Temp Sensor.
Maybe you have a couple problems here.
