Default High idle until warm and restarted

So from start until warm my truck idles from 1500-2000+ until I completely cut it off once it gets warm and restart it. I've tried searching and seen some people mention limp mode, would this be it? Any ideas as to why? I'm in the process of looking for pics and locations of the tps and iacv. I'm still learning lol

Just went through the same exact thing with my 98. Seems the IVAC was way out of wack, but mine was self-inflicted as I just replaced mine without knowing the ramifications of my replacing pieces arbitrarily & subsequently creating the high idle. In the event you haven't messed with it, I would check the wiring, clean your intake with some CRC & see if that takes care of the problem. If you've played with it, then you will more than likely need to have a Land Rover shop reset it.

I haven't messed with it yet, I don't even know where/what "it" is haha

Drivers side front part of the throttle body. Right in front of the cold air intake tube. 2 screw/allen/trox will remove it. Spray it down with CRC along with the throttle body itself. Make sure it's plugged back in & start. Will run like sh**, but will smooth out in a few seconds as it drys.

Well I cleaned the TPS,IACV, MAF sensor, and the butterfly valve, still have idle of 1500-~2200.. No idea now what.. I sprayed starter fluid around the air box and engine and didn't hear it rev up so not sure about a vacuum leak.. Replaced the fuel filter and pump about a month ago also. I also noticed that the plug that's supposed to cover the idle control is missing.. Not sure if somebody has tampered with it or not.. Should I just go to a junk yard and try swapping the TPS and ECU or would I also need the alarm too?

Edit: also now when it's cut off and restarted the high idle is still present

You probably have an IACV that's hitting the skids. The plug that's removed covers the idle adjustment screw that we're not supposed to touch that I have zero fear of adjusting. It can lean out or richen the a/f mixture so it's something to be aware of.....but it can also raise and lower your idle speed...... Count the turns to bottom and then come up half the amount. Do this with a warm engine because your going to set it at book idle speed of 700 rpms. Do it slowly because it there is lag between turning the screw and having an effect.

Best of luck.

Alright cool thanks. I've been hesitant to touch the idle adjustment because of everyone saying that'll just lead to a whole list of other problems. The main reason being was that not too long ago after it would warm up and I restarted it, it would idle fine around 750-1000. So I didn't adjust the screw or whatever because I figured that once it got warmed up it would be set too low and stall out?

It can lead to erratic idle and either the motor running too lean or too rich. You'll notice that it may not change the motor rpms but it is in fact changing that. It can effect your pre cat O2's and cats themselves. Too much or too little oxygen is catastrophic to both. It's more of an emissions adjustment but if the plug is missing someone removed it and changed the setting from factory anyways.......

Just take your time with it, minor adjustments on a warm engine may buy you some time to find a place that can reset your ECU parameters once you change out a faulty IACV. My feeling is the coil is getting weak and is not capable of modifying the idle the way it once did. So a new IACV is in your future. For now you have a battle plan to circumvent the inevitable for just a little while longer......

yeah I figured somebody probably messed with it since the plug was gone.. but im not sure if it is in fact my IACV because when I turn the a/c on, the RPMs rise, then drops back down to where it was before?

So I just drove it a few miles to warm the engine up so I could adjust the throttle screw. Saw in the rave that it said clockwise lowers the idle, I kept turning it listening for a change in rpms, until I couldn't turn it anymore, it only dropped it to 1500 rpm according to the tach
