For the last few weeks I had been struggling to get my hood open. The hood release handle was slightly broken with a probably stretched cable. I had to remove the driver side headlight to access the release cable. After cutting it I removed the outer casing in order to pull on the wire to release the hood but it was a no go. I pulled so hard the remaining cable pulled out completely. Now I needed to drill into the metal security housing. I used a long screwdriver to push the lever to the right and yet the hood remained closed. After applying some lube to the area it was still a no go.
A picture of what I have to work with is included.
What should I be doing?
A good reason to lube up the latches, especially the hood and rear door!! Might need to bang on the hood while the latch us being held open. unfortunately once the cable is broken they are extremely tough to get open. I think I ended up going through the grille but you still have to fight with that plate.
Had to dremel out the Hood Latch STC925. Got a new one coming. Still haven't found a source for the metal security bracket AWR4767.
I found the D2 OEM Hood cable I got from Paul Grant years ago. Best be putting that on when the other parts arrive. I will remember to lube the hell out of this gear from here on!.
Good to hear! I did the rounds of lubricating door latches and hood latches after you posted this. I should replace the cable on my D1 as the handle broke, but I can still use it using the claw side of a hammer (under the seat)
I don't know if it's the same as the D2. On mine I removed the security bracket in case I ever need to do what you just did. (I'm thinking you should leave the security bracket out, I don't think anyone is trying to steal engine parts from these).
