AUX lights or a drooping hood liner should not be causing a truck to run warm. I have seen good amounts of hood liner material ingested into the stock air box though. I have had big Hella or IPF lights on my Discos dating back to at least 2000 and never had an issue.

Have you looked at other causes for the warm running motor? How warm is it running?

truck runs around 188-201,until stop and go traffic with temps near 95,then it'll creep up 206-215,sometimes it'll hit 221 and never really cools back below 200 but will back down to 212

Is this with A/C on? Have you gone through the cooling system?

I honestly couldn't tell you what is normal for stop and go traffic in Florida heat. With the A/C on and going slow things are going to hot, even with your aux fans operating properly when you have the A/C selected. I would not be overly concerned with your temps.

I'm in FL as well, mine will typically run about 190-195 at highway speeds, stop and go will get me up to the 205 range. 220 would really freak me out, but my Disco runs cooler than a lot of people's so take it with a grain of salt. I've noticed as well that the dashboard temp gauge is about as sensitive as the brakes in these trucks (i.e. not at all). My temps can range from 180-205 and I can't notice any movement at all, the needle never reaches the halfway point. IMO the ultragauge is a double-edged sword as it enables us to watch temperatures way more closely than they were ever meant to be watched in these vehicles, though I guess with an aluminum block and heads LR was asking for trouble.

Tru, I've removed the liner completely as well. People do say that it's hard on your paint, so maybe just think twice on the off chance that your hood paint is immaculate. However, I'm also under the impression that the liner is meant to be an acoustic barrier as well, does anyone know for sure?

It does make sense that the liner would cause the engine to run a bit warmer in stop and go traffic as there's no natural circulation of air, but overheating might be a stretch. If you've already got a cooling problem, this will probably just exacerbate whatever condition is already there.
