I tried everything years ago with this issue, ended up paying a rover shop to have the ecm reset then bought a rover scanner

Check on Dweb. Robertf was working on a bluetooth ELM OBDII adapter that could reset the adaptive values.

I remember Tom.

Fish have you tried the reset? Whats your experience with it so far, like do you have to reflash it often?

Crunkgringo used the tool successfully.

His problem turned out to be a bent tab on the reluctor ring however.

Good indication if not fully 'certified'.

To reset the idle u need to reset adaptive values, if u swap ecm , change iac valve , or the ecm has a hiccup u must reset it, ive not had to do this but 2 times? 1 was when my ecm got wet bad
I had at first taken it to the dealer they had a guy work on it that did not know gems, he drilled the intake told me cant be fixed when i specified to reset ecmi ended up buying another used intake and having an independent shop reset it, DO NOT DRILL THAT INTAKE PLUG

guy im friends with at dealer now has no idea why someone would have done that

I had to have an Indy mechanic reset the adaptive values witj TestBook on my 98 twice. My 96 hasn't needed anything. And my 94 doesn't even have that option.

Ooooohhh, you need to reset it after changing the IAC valve. Had no idea.

I’ve been chasing high-idle issues on cold start...like 2k rpm, then it would settle down to 1100 when I took it out of park. Warm starts were better afterward.

I changes my IACV a while back, didn’t seem to be associated with it.

Just changed my MAF to one of my backups...now I’m the opposite with warm idle at 400rpm.

Looks like Ike I’m off to the shop.

Hello Everyone,

Just a quick update on what I thought was my high idle issue. All this time I was looking at the tach gauge and it looked high, it also sounded high. So today I changed my UltraGauge to read RPMs and would you know it, it was reading an idle at 900rpm at all!

From the image provided does this look like I am in the safe zone?
I cleaned my throttle body, and have a new IACV coming. With this reading should I clean the installed IACV? When at idle the tach doesn't bounce all around it stays steady as in the picture. By the way according to the image what RPM is being displayed on my gauge? Is my Rover gauge off and I shouldn't trust it like I have learned not to entirely trust the temperature gauge?

Thanks

That looks close to perfect in my opinion. Don't touch a thing besides your TV remote and a cold one.
