Default How did you find your Disco?

I just picked up my first Land Rover, a '95 5-speed car with some upgrades, new tires and 30k miles on freshly rebuilt engine and transmission. I was simply in the right place at the right time. The seller had listed it just 15minutes before I saw it on Craigslist – I just happened to be looking. He and the Rover were both on the base where I work, less than a mile away. When I met him, his phone was blowing up with phone calls, but I was the first one to look at it. I almost passed on it, but I've done that before ('55 Chevy BelAir 2-Door post - mostly in boxes for $500) and regretted it. I was in fact casually looking for something with 4WD, but I was thinking Jeep Cherokee – perhaps something in a Toyota. Looking back, I’m glad I didn’t pass on it.

Picture below is of the Craigslist ad.

My son needed a vehicle and he always wanted a Rover. Me, being a Chevy man, my daily driver was an 07 Silverado 2500hd with 6.6 duramax with 225000 miles. Great truck by the way, only thing i have replaced was power steering pump. Anyway he found an 03 Disco SE7, and an 04 Disco S on Craigslist, package deal. 03 was running on 6 cylinders with recent hg replacement, 04 had hole in radiator, oil leak from front cover, bank 2 hg replaced but needed bank 1 done, aftermarket front and rear bumpers, Terrafirma 2" lift, new big tires, lots of other goodies. I purchased the two and parked the 03, while we spent our time on the 04, Nissans radiator, hg on bank 1, new y-pipe with cats, new timing gears and chain, oil pump inspected. That done and he was on the road. Purchased new coil, wires and plugs and the 03 was on the road. This was February of this year and i am hooked. Poor Chevy gets started every now and then, and ready for any heavy towing.

Wrecked my Mazda Protege back in '09. Wanted something 4wd for the winters. Was looking for a Grand Cherokee and came across my '98 D1 on Craigslist. Bought it for $3000 with 72,000 miles.Daily drove it for a few years and modded and wheeled it. Then it became a dedicated trail truck.

Bought my '96 D1 daily driver from my brother for $700. It had new tires, and OME lift, and RTE steering rods. Sold the steering rods for $300. When he owned it I helped him with a full 4 corner brake job and rebuilt both his driveshafts. I put in a used $30 starter when I bought it and Sears warrantied out the battery for me. Been driving it for the last 2.5 years with very little repairs. Hell the Cruise Control even works!!!!

Bought my '95 D1 in June of '14 for $700. Got it from a local kid that I helped install a lift on the truck a year prior. Came with sh*tty ProComp shocks and some Big Blue lift springs, some spare parts, and empty bag of weed behind the clock. Its still a work in progress.

Got mine off of Facebook. 3 miles outside of town with a fuel pump that didn't work. $650. 3weeks later, I disconnected the inertia switch and bypassed it. been running ever since. Fixed the power windows, added a radio, front driveshaft, minor details , etc. a great running truck!

I bought mine from a customer at work who decided it wasn't worth the money to fix it. So, I paid his bill and he gave me the title... $500. 1997 D1 with 130k. Did the heads, replaced the alt, soldered the bad bit on the window lift ecu... Now my daily driver. Took down a fairly gnarly trail and back out with no problem. Bone stock, new street tires, Bilstein shocks. It's my 8th Land Rover, but the only one I have at the moment.

Friend was retiring early and moving to Panama and needed to unload his 97 SD. I had twins on the way and needed a "kid car" and was working hard to avoid getting a minivan. He gave me a nice deal for a 58K truck he kept regularly serviced so I went for it. 10 years later, mods, repairs, maintenance, etc. and it has become a bit of an obsession (according to my wife anyway).

It just hit 100K a few days ago and I think it needs another head gasket job. Grrrr!!!

I love my Rover, I love my Rover...

I bought my 1995 Discovery in early 1997 with 18,000 miles on it in NY from the original owner, and I've had it ever since. I've had it repaired a lot over the years, and it went from being my main vehicle to the "weekend" toy, as it's reliability came into question. As my health deteriorated, it eventually just sat there and the weather and time took its toll on the exterior/interior (with no garage, the years in the FL sun will wreak havoc). However, I always figured that if I got better, I would try to restore it, as kind of a "repayment" for all the years it stood by me while some other things didn't. So now that I've gotten a new lease on life, I'm going to try to give my Discovery a transplant of its own! I'm sure VT will be a more suitable climate, and certainly more challenging terrain! I'll let you know how I make out. Thanks for the opportunity.
