Default How do you bring faded black bumpers back to life?

on my 98 disco, the black bumpers are faded, not the end of the world, but I thought they would look a little better if I was able to bring some of the black color back instead of them being greyish.

any ideas other then armor all?

this is a pretty common problem in the old watercooled vw world... people have had good luck using peanut butter, the meguirs back to black goop, and ive also had success using a heat gun.

basically anything that removes the oxidation (heat gun) or soaks oils into the plastic (most of the other solutions) should work.

plastic needs to be cleaned with solvents and then very lightly sanded. then put your product on. I prefer dyes or stains to surface paints. I like Forever Black. For things which need cover up, like the grill I properly prepped then used plastic paint and then my flat black.

metal can be cleaned and sanded the same way and then sprayed with a good rustoleum.

my stuff is lasting well so far.

Liquid shoe scuff remover or black shoe wax work great and last. Plus they're cheaper and easier to find than back to black and other similar products. Did it on my old '92 Jetta with black plastic bumpers and on my 98 Disco.

Agreed. Available at advanced auto parts. Got it for $4.99 on sale. Easy to apply. May need to do two applications for very oxidized pieces, but it works great.
