1997 LSE for $2500 with ~123,000 miles on it fresh from an engine switch that had 83,000 miles on it. No rust. No wrecks.

I ask because I gutted the interior of mine to reveal big holes of rust in the footwells of the front seats. Gonna take it in today for a "weld sheet metal over them" estimate, but am open to all possible solutions.

Nothing yet. Trying to find a cheap low rust SWB RRC that needs an engine. If I were to fix it, sheet metal welded in would be only option as it's pretty bad. Of the holes are less that 6x6 and not in a vital spot you could fiberglass them and seal it off. I'm gonna have to do that with my white truck this summer.

I'm competing for worst deal, or most naive Disco purchase...

Paid $3600 from a used car lot. 163,000 miles.

The Bad:
Blown head gasket
Internal engine components worn due to lack of maintenance
Far too old fluids
Coolant in power steering
Power seat switches broken
Bad battery
Sun roofs broken and leaked
Cruise control broken
Bushings and engine mounts shot
Everything covered in oil + dirt mud
Catalytic converters bad
Bad O2 sensors
Transfer case interlock solenoid broke
ABS inoperative

The Good:
No rust
Paint
Interior

I've fixed everything now, but it's been quite a ride.

Lesson learned: If you see a Disco for sale and immediately start dreaming of African expeditions, have someone slap you. Then have someone smarter than yourself, and who does not work for the dealership, find every damn thing that's wrong with it.

I paid 2000 for mine about in late feb. of 2012.. 132k 1999 D1 SD... interior in good shape, driver seat has a small rip.. no major mechanical issues discovered so far. The heater and cruise control dont work. it runs and drives great. I bought this from a dealer as well so everyone thinks you get hosed at a dealership but Im happy.

$300. Bought from storage lot after sitting year plus. Apparently truck was used primarily as a hay-hauler and dog-kennel before PO left the state.

Needed head gaskets, freeze plug, rad flush/rod, exhaust, brake line and tons of troubleshooting/de-bugging, tuning, cleaning and maint. 188K miles, clear coat peeling on hood and roof, light body damage to left front wing. Very little rust though... :-O

Wait....

I bought the first one new in '96 which was just under $40K, sold that one in 2005. Then, I bought the current '96 for $1500....a year ago......which I actually used for this poll....

Bought my 98 1000$ back in '08 as a project truck. It had 136k kilometers on the clock... which is approximately 82k miles.

Bad t-case, needed a tune-up and tires, interior was terribly filthy but in nice shape. Paint was starting to flake, and some other cosmetic issues and missing parts.

I bought my '97 Disco in 2007 for $4500 cash from the car dealer that your dad always told you not to go to because it is on the wrong side of town.
The asking price was $5800, Blue Book was $6200, it had 152,change, one owner, dealer maintained, it was his neighbors truck and he was selling it as a favor.

My second was a '95 that sat for a year under a pine tree.
I paid $600 for the truck, drove it 60 miles home, took the ARB winch bumper off of it and swapped with my bumper, sold it for $600.
It had 210k on it when I sold it.
