saintdel. Welcome!
PROS to D1 Ownership...overall easier to work on then D2
CONS...Not near as much support as D2's...
Keep Paul Grant on LRF speed dial...he's a life saver with parts and info. Also download the RAVE manuals, there somewhere on this site.

$2000 for 96 D1, 173000 with brand new Goodyear a/t's, new radiator and hoses, new brakes, front seats redone, everything works except the fog lights and one sunroof doesn't completely lock down upon closing. Smooth running engine, good shifting trans, something's gotta go wrong. Of course I've only had it a week, there's plenty of time.
Got it, thanks. I've already taken note of Paul from reading 10000 posts over the past week.
Just a piece of advice as mine was same, well cept price :P. But if you get a code throwing missfire on a cyl. Check the compression first. This happened to me and after replacing every injector, and a new rail. As well as a bunch of other parts, found the issue was just a head gasket that broke between cyl 6 and 8.
Just bought an extremely clean '97 for $2.5K. 1 owner, has been in Texas its whole life, so ZERO RUST, small dent in front fender, 115k miles, appears to have been garaged as the paint & interior are close to like new.
I'm sure there will be a few things to sort out, but price seemed very reasonable for such a clean example.

Yes. I agree!
& she appears to have been very well cared for. :-)
I actually live in SE Georgia.
...but I'm currently working a contract job in mid-Ohio, so she might see her 1st SNOW if I'm still here when the white stuff starts to fall!! :-O

Drove half way across the state of Virginia today for a 1996 5 speed with 138K miles on it. Paid $2,800. It isn't pristine by any imagination. But she ran the 330 mile home bound leg at 75 and purred the whole way. Ok, there was that occasional, troubling whine from the rear end and I did steal the wife's space in the carport because both sunroofs are a bit sketchy. But the ride sure beats the he!! out of the 2002 Montero I looked at the day before. Almost forgot, the price included two replacement sunroofs, a spare jump seat, two oil filters and some miscellaneous spare parts plus the truck has four almost brand new tires. So, she'll be worth at least a grand in the morning.
I bought my 1997 Disco 1 about 3 years ago for $3K. ~110k miles. Body was in good shape. Engine high idled but generally engine and trans in good shape. Various electrical/mechanical things didn't work but have been having a blast fixing everything ever since. This forum is invaluable!
