How to remove A/C and Recirc. switches ?
Hello !
The backlight bulb on both switches (STC. 1863 and BTR 6491) have to be replaced, because they are blown (after 20 years of good function !)
But how to remove the heater control unit out of the central facia ?
And how to get both switches out of the heater control unit without damaging ?
I’ ve sought in many manuals and on many forums, but exactly those informations are missing there.
Thanks for showing me the right wah to this !

It is a pain in the butt. The entire center dash needs to be removed. This is not 100%, but hits the main ideas....
- Pull the ***** off the heater controls and slider. Just yank hard
- Unscrew the heater control
- use credit cards and whatnot to unclip the coin tray and clock
- cruise control and fog light section should just pop out
- find the appropriate allen key and remove the stereo
- Once all that is cleared you'll see some screws that hold the drink tray on.
- Find the screws which hold the center dash on
- there are a couple behind a small piece near the stereo. there are two tabs on that piece. push gently on the bottom of it.
- now you should have access.
The buttons can all be renovated with 3mm 'wheat' lamps.
If you need more on re-habbing a button let me know, I'll post a 'how to' eventually

Hello,WaltNYC,
Thanks for the information !
Yesterday, while trying to get out the blown backlight bulb in the center of te heater control unit, I couldn’t pull it out -it was really stubborn. Suddenly, while trying to hover it pushing and pulling, I pushed the black bulbholder into the unit.
Kind regards !

Hello,
I’m succeeded to replace the backlight in the A/C switch and de recirculation switch.
After checking, the backlight in the rear fog lights switch is also blown !
Walt,
What do you mean by “3 mm wheat lamps” ?
My english is not that perfect, you see ?
Thanks for updating me.
