Post How to separate the engine harness from main harness/Disco 1

Hello there

Is it anyone who have separated the engine harness from the main harness on a Disco 1 ? With the eventually wires/relays, for the transmission too..

I have a Disco 1 -96, that I lifting the body off and planning to use the complete frame/engine/drivetrain, and want to "trim" down the electricat harness so much as possible.

Take away SRS, Power locks, Power windows, AC, Sound system etc..
Just so I only have whats needed to run the engine...

It is for a buggy project, and the Disco drive system is perfect in my eyes..
Aluminum engine/low weight! Coils! And axles etc...

Thank You

The RAVE electrical and circuits manuals are your friend.

Hi and thank You for Your reply

Yes i download it yesterday, the RAVE

Now I just need to be familiar with it!

I took all the harness (almost) apart and, though.. it should be disconnectors for each item, like power window unit , or seats etc.., but no!
It seems to be "baked" in together with the rest of main harness...

Ok, I just have to inform, that I am not "just separate the engine harness from the main", i want to use whats needed to run the car!
Like I said before, I just want to disconnect the "extra" wiring I don't need..
Just need the items/harness/relays etc, to run that engine, nothing else.

thanks folks

There's not really any way to do what you want short of cutting up the wiring.

The 96 has the GEMS ECU, will need the multi function relay. Look at the manual for starting and charging and engine management. You don't need a speedometer, so VSS is out. Won't need window ECU, but alarm ECU and main ECU talk to each other for immobilzation. May have to fool alarm ECU with a lot of dummy inputs.

Default Thanx guys

Hi again and thank You for Your replies and help.
Yes, it is the alarm "part" I am worried about.
The speedo and the power windows and central locks and SRS should be no problem to "sort out"..
The SRS is already gone by now, and now all the harness is out from the rig!
I started to lift/block the body up, so I can roll the bottom part out (the frame with engine and axles)
But I have to wait til tomorrow, or later on, depends on my wife, what state she is in, if I need to be at her side or not..
We are in the "last/waiting" days with my wife, who have terminal cancer, doc says it can be whenever, and the hospice is in charge now..
What is why this project take its time, the Rover project is just something for me now, to "split" my mind on, something to "space" out on..

Ok, well I cant really "space out" totally, this electrical system seems to make my brain work, oh hey, at least a little!

Again, thank You for the replies, and help, I certainly seems to get a backup!

Thumbs up Body off

Finally, my body went off yesterday!

That was a challenging thing to do, out in the backyard, beside the RV trailer..
Just one high lift and 4 house jack stands and a bunch of concrete blocks!

Well, it is off and the chassi rolled out fine, more scary was to lower the body from the 5 feet hight position!
Down it came, just slightly bended rear sides, the lower sidings just front of the rear doors..
Shall try to haul the body off, then opportunity shows
The electric harness (complete) laying is a big plastic container, waiting for time and mood, for the "cut down"..
I want to get more courage, and knowledge before I put the side biter and knife in my hand!
