Default how to tell which fuel injector is leaking?

my 97 discovery 1 has been running great! only issue is after driving awhile {60mph}and letting it sit restarting hot she stumbles with idle for a few seconds then levels out and runs fine.just changed wires and plugs and sensors aren't old, iavc is clean and i really think it's an injector leaking down.my local LR parts supplier gave me an injector so i can test if i'm right,i just don't know where to start! their all firing so an ohm test won't help,is a leak down test the only way to tell if a valve is open and that the leaking injector would be that cylinder? i'm a little confused where to start.a good local LR {indy} mechanic says he never replaced an injector. i'm trying to do this myself, any help would be appreciated.should also mention running seafoam in tank {1 bottle}each with last 2 fillups.a really big thankyou to all who contribute.RJ

Techron is what your looking for. Techron is stronger so it works quicker for fuel deposits in injectors. When an injector mechanically fails it's either wide open or closed. I would remove all the plugs and compare. Normally hot start issues are ECU coolant temp sensor or the fuel rail temp sensor. A bad injector is going to make the motor run rough all the time.

thanks for the reply, just got back from shop talking to mechanic [as he was putting rockers and push rods on a gasket job!on a D2]he said also forget about the injectors, asked what i put in [seafoam] and said maybe an o2 sensor [which are original]guess i'm leaving injectors alone [he said again he never changed a rover's injectors and there were at least 9 or 10 vehicles in wait!for work]after i burn thru this tank with seafoam i'll try techron, but your probably right about fuel or coolant sensors, just don't know how to tell without codes[car is free from cel and running great]appreciate any ideas on testing to figure this out.RJ

just changed fuel filter, coolant temp sensor and fuel temp sensor, after i burn tank with seafoam i'll try the techron and see if that stops the hot restarts, when i do daily drives it's fine, only after highway driving at 60mph+ then let her sit for 10,btw do these injectors have filter baskets? and will a bottle of techron to next full tank hurt engine{overdose of additives] appreciate all imputs and thanks,RJ

They should have screens in the inlets, some guys have said they didn't on theirs. Mine did and they do trap junk and also collect fuel deposits.

Of you can pull the injectors you should be able to test them.
You can rig a can of brake cleaner and spray it into the injector. The brake cleaner should only pass through the injector when you apply 12 volts to it.
Check this out.

thanks for responding,i did see the youtube video on a makeshift cleaner,i.ll know after a tank of techron but i think if it still happens chances are that it's a mechanical type failure [pintle not closing enough] so it's probably easier to swap out the set with a remanned bunch!they have been in there for 20yrs!. i liked that thread on the different tests of injectors,i'll let you guys know after burning thru a tank! also, figured after what ihscouts said about failed injector would make truck run bad all the time, changing what i did [fuel filter, coolant temp, fuel temp sensor] may [i hope] correct the issue, thanks for all imput and will let you know,RJ
