Hey guys,

I have a '97 Disco and I noticed when I went out to my truck this morning the blower has been running all night even though the ignition was off. I searched around the forum and saw someone mention that it could be a relay or switch going bad. Does anyone have an idea of where to start?

 

Man I have no idea when it comes to electrical stuff, I can change a light bulb and check a fuse but thats about it.

 

The slider switch for the fan is pretty common to fail, mine would stop working on high speed and if I tapped it it would come back on. That being said, I don't think that would keep the thing running even when the key is off. I suggest downloading the rave and looking at power distribution, if you are comfortable doing that kind of thing, and trying to find what all switches and relays are before the blower motor.

Are you talking about the condenser fans behind the grille? If so, these are on a switch, they turn on when your AC is on and also come on to prevent heat soak after the engine is turned off and they are on a timer. I would check the timer circuit or the temp sending unit as well if this is your problem.

If it is the actual blower motor in the cabin, then you may have a short somewhere in the circuit as that circuit is only live when the key is in the ignition.

 

Yeah it's the cabin blower motor.. I found a schematic in the RAVE, the blower motor is turned on via a relay. I'll try to find and replace it this week and let you guys know.

 

Speegles, another issue may be like what happens to me, when i remove the key from the ignition, the ignition sometimes thinks that the key is still there (its obviously worn out) so sometimes i need to jiggle the key to make sure that the ignition knows the key is removed.

 

I am surprised it could run all night and not kill the battery. I would think Vegas is most likely correct, you probably have a lot of wear in that key mechanism for it to be powered up wqith the key off and out.
