Default I failed to Identify my Vacuum Lines for replacement

Hello Good People,
Hoping all is well for Everyone.

Auh today seemed like a comfortable day to install the new silicon vacuum lines I picked up back in Dec2019.

After giving the engine a look over I was I found and replaced one short line from the Plenum to the regulator in the rear of the engine on the driver side.

The remaining hoses dont appear to come off so easily or I could be mistaking them for vacuum lines when they are not. Or are they? I have looked at a couple of vacuum routing diagrams but those diagram dont seem to resemble my setup.

Included are images from my engine bay.
The first image with the blue hose is the one I did. I am totally missing this and need your help. Feel free to draw on the images to drive this into my head so I know.

Just following the high mileage to-do-list from Disco Mike I got my hands on the:
2 feet of 3/16th vacuum tube
2 feet of 5/16th vacuum tube

Now I learn that this silicon hose probably isnt for the truck, or is it if I am also replacing the vacuum lines for the cruise control?

Only the hose from Plenum to the regulator looks like removable vacuum line. Everything else looks hard and no so replaceable.

If anyone can chime in about vacuum lines for the GEM motors that would be appreciated.

The following images that I found confusing are for distributor driven 14CUX motors.

Hi Toran-

I assume you've referred to the vacuum diagrams in your engine compartment? Or are they not there? They should of course be authoritative for your particular vehicle. I'm including the one in my engine compartment, but it's a year newer and automatic. I can see that being relevant. [as in my other thread, mods are holding my pics for review, so this may not post right away]

I pulled off one of the hard lines, tried to clean it as well as possible and sucked it like I was in a back alley and needed $20. It held mouth pressure with a finger held over the other end. I'll see if I can test the others in the same way because I don't trust what 20+ years can do to plastic and rubber.

Good luck.

Hey CantComplain,
Thanks for the image, that is the one that looks closest to my setup.
Much appreciated!

Thanks for these pictures - I recently replaced everything too and just went out to check my lines again and while I had replaced the short fuel pressure regulator vacuum line - I forgot to attach the end to the plenum - you saved me Thanks

This morning I tossed on a new fuel pump relay for good measure - might have had some early indications of failure (intermittent sudden loss of power at speed)

Between hooking up the loose vacuum line and new relay seems to have a much crisper cold start and idle

Too little info to tell, but VSS could be the culprit. If you have a smart phone and an OBD dongle you can know with certainty. The MPH readout from the ECU will be ridiculously high when the power loss occurs.

this has happened several times on cross country trips - sudden loss of power (like it stalled or severe hesitation) duration is 1 to 2 seconds and then it is off and running again - the engine does not stop running/die - just sudden drop in RPMs

I do not have an OBD but will invest in one

how long will the MPH readout info be stored for ?

thanks

It won’t be stored. The best way to see it is to use a real time data app (OBD Fusion or Torque for example). In the example in this link the upper number on the screen it coolant temp and the number at the bottom is the MPH from the ECU.

Thanks WaltNYC - buddy stopped by this morning with his scanner - no codes such as 0500 for VSS - I mentioned VSS might be something to look at - he didn't see any preliminary indications this is the issue - there are no strange transmission shifting issues no odd jumps in speedometer - bouncing

he is leaning toward the fuel pump relay as well

if it happens again with the new relay - it will be back to the drawing board
